Today we are going to talk about the Madrid park par excellence and one of the main settings where our Outdoor Escape Games take place: the Retiro Park.
This park is located right in the heart of the Spanish capital and due to its large area (about 140ha), the best way to explore it is by bicycle, segway, e-bike or any of our ecological means of transport. We recommend that you come to our office at Avd/ de Menéndez Pelayo 9, leave your backpack or suitcase in our lockers and set off on an adventure to discover each of its magical corners. Below we will tell you some interesting facts about this impressive park:
The Retiro Park belonged to the kings of Spain, from its origins around 1630 until 1868, the year in which it became public domain for the enjoyment of all citizens.
In 2001, the Madrid City Council drained the pond and inside they found real treasures: from more than a hundred chairs and tables, wooden benches and other street furniture, to 40 sunken boats, mobile phones, wallets, shopping carts, etc. But the crown jewels were an old chewing gum vending machine and a safe (empty, though). The loot is not bad at all.
Inside the park is the beautiful Crystal Palace, built by Ricardo Velázquez Bosco for the Exposition of the Philippine Islands in 1887. It is a place of temporary exhibitions and you can enter for free and admire its 23-meter-high dome. It will leave you speechless.
